The presence of the external base symbolizes the impact and constraints imposed on us by society, environment, and others. Under the influence of these external factors, we undergo continuous changes, sometimes breaking through, and other times experiencing limitations. This ongoing process of change reflects the interaction between individuals and their environment, while also representing the dialogue with our inner selves.

In this artwork, I chose to mold porcelain clay into rod-like shapes and subjected them to high-temperature firing. Subsequently, these porcelain rods were placed inside the earthenware body of a pottery jar, and the entire piece was fired again using ceramic kiln techniques. By harnessing the shrinkage properties during ceramic firing, the porcelain rods no longer contracted, leading to the cracking and breaking of the pottery jar during the second firing. This process manifested a certain degree of breakthrough or expansion, while the pottery jar remained constrained by the external base made of clay. The crisscrossing structure of the porcelain rods and the external base formed a significant tug-of-war effect, which became evident during the cracking and transformation of the porcelain rods. It resulted in dynamic and intriguing visual effects.
