This bowl explores a moment from my childhood, while visiting the UK, when I was enchanted by a particular natural phenomena: water drops on beach rocks. The tea bowl contemplates the moment when a wave crashes, splits over the rocks and forms tiny beads of sparkly water. For a moment, they sit like small clear pearls on the stone before being absorbed- it is this magical moment I am recreating.

Decorative tea bowl made from black clay using the Kurinuki carving technique. It is decorated in a deep blue glaze and a silver droplets glaze with some areas of purple where the two glazes have reacted to each other, forming iridescent purple hues. The object is not functional but takes a functional shape as its artistic form.
