Traces I is a group of ceramic objects made in porcelain and minerals found on Vang granite quarry on Bornholm-Denmark. The traces of minerals left on the porcelain forms and those of the maker’s hands, not only provide a sense of belonging and identity; they add a distinctive ceramic expression to the hand-thrown forms. The artwork is the beginning of an ongoing dialogue between the materials and their surroundings. Going on site to find materials, creates a bond with the environment. Getting familiar with a place and turning it into a home, whether in Colombia, England or Bornholm, allows me to take ownership of the dialogue with the geographic area. This body of work is part of a series of porcelain vessel made for a site-specific installation that acted as an invitation to explore the remains of Vang quarry. And as a way of giving something back to the place that has welcomed me by sharing its culture and history. A place that is now very close to my heart, the beautiful island of Bornholm.
