Concept of artwork 設計理念:
In Japanese culture, omiyage is a keepsake brought back from ones travels, a gift to loved ones at home. An omiyage allows one to catch a glimpse of the journey embarked on. Inspired by how gifts are presented to one another in East Asian cultures, each Omiyage piece nestles cosily into palms cupped together. Its colours shift through a steady gradient, a gentle reminder that we too change gradually with each experience and journey we embark on.

其他說明:
Omiyage is a series of 80 porcelain unique pieces, first displayed in Daisy’s solo exhibition - To Return From Sojourn, at ION Art Gallery, Singapore in 2020. In this series, I sought to create ceramic works that capture the experience of my formative years, especially the lesson of slowing down to appreciate the moments of growth. Viewers will be taken on a jaunt through the work where their attention will be drawn to visual elements that tend to be overlooked; prompted to take a step back and draw meaning from the course of a journey rather than its destination, a nod to the oscillating nature of my experience with Taiwan and Singapore. In Japan, it is polite to present keepsakes (omiyage) to friends and family upon returning from one’s travels. Given its previous colonial ties, Taiwanese culture is heavily influenced by the Japanese. As I close this transitory chapter of my life and return home for good, I present this Omiyage to you. This collection of handheld forms with curved bottoms move and spin freely when put down, mimicking the slip-casting technique used to create this series of works.
