Vernonia, a genus of 350 species of forbs and shrubs in the family Asteraceae, reflects the flourishing of wildflowers when weeding was pared back during the pandemic. To make visible the local flora that is often overlooked, floral motifs of weeds are hand-carved and moulded into a circular form. This brings together what would have otherwise been discarded parts of nature, inviting viewers to observe the hidden details among unwanted weeds.

This work investigates the fragile yet enduring nature of porcelain. To redefine the traditional sprigged decoration technique, the designs are hand-carved and moulded to create a fragile tension where the surface becomes the form. The delicate openwork structures enhance the translucency of porcelain, reflecting the impermanence and fragility of nature in the urban landscape.
