The material transition is a fascinating subject that let me insert my practice into a historic tradition of using clay as imitative and reproduction material. People have tried to imitate precious and rare materials throughout history when they wanted to make them cheaper, multiple and accessible. The material transition by changing technology, economy, fashion, and social needs transformed what material we use and what we value.

re... My project is about making teapots by replicating rescued found objects’ forms in ceramics. These objects are discards of individual things or leftovers of bigger objects, like door handles, scrap wood, plastic, and metal furniture fragments. As a maker, after a repetitive reproduction process of the pre-existed objects’ forms, I reassemble them as a teapot. In this regenerating process, I repurpose their function, reassess and recreate their value and material qualities. I chose to make teapots as they are a combination of multiple pieces within a complex vessel which allowed me to accommodate several found objects in the same piece of work. Since the first lockdown in March 2020, I have spent more time in my local area where I realised how we are surrounded by waste items in the urban habitat. I started collecting waste objects from trash piles, from front garden walls and skips. I saw them not as rubbish, but as sources of opportunity and inspiration. By repurposing and regenerating them into new ceramic vessels, I recreated their value, function, and material quality. They started a new journey on a hybrid object.
