“Whole Cake Series” draws from the artist’s personal longing for affirmation and belonging in her early twenties. Using the soft, sweet image of a cake—a symbol of celebration and positivity—the artist reflects on the dry, black-and-white lives of those struggling to maintain hope in an unfamiliar world. Surrounded by joyful gatherings and bright spaces, the cake becomes a distant object of desire for someone yearning for support. A young girl, embedded within the narrative of the work, takes her first step into society, facing cold, silent gazes that cause her to shrink inward. Despite the discomfort, she forces a stiff smile—driven by the will to survive and the desire to belong. The ornate ceramic decorations, reminiscent of celebration and festivity, may in fact mirror this artificial expression: a forced performance of joy. Rather than dramatizing emotion, the artist deliberately condenses it into small-scale figurative forms. This restraint invites viewers to look closer—to discover quiet stories embedded within the work.
