The core foundation of this body of work relates to the complex components, repeat patterns, multiples and building blocks that make up much of our natural world and human existence. Mirroring a delicacy and a strength in the human condition. When you are immersed in the form, the natural flow of the objects seems chaotic and captures the light and shadows of other earthly ideals. These hand build wall sculptures in porcelain, are complex, folded, twisted, undulating forms. These wall sculptures and their ash frames require months of precise and delicate hand building work. The porcelain is rolled so finely that I can be cut with scissors. The porcelain no longer resembles clay but a form of extremely delicate paper, that can tear and warp. I utilise jewelry making tools whilst building each individual piece. Each piece, whether a twist, a ribbon or folded is then added to the undulating slab of paper porcelain. Each panel working with it neighbour, each section a familiar to any of the other panels in this ongoing body of work. With this, you are drawn into the beauty of simplicity, pattern and erosion; to the light, shadows and curved, con-caved forms.
