In 2007, Hong Kong Government released a planning strategy to support the realization of the vision of positioning Hong Kong as Asia’s world city under the main idea of “Ten Major Infrastructure Projects to Boost Our Economy”. After a decade, according to the HK Poverty Situation Report 2017, the poor population is 1.376 million and the poverty rate is 20.1%. Siu is questioning whether such kinds of infrastructure create any kind of substantial improvement to the Hong Kong people. Luncheon (2018) is an imaginary fine dining setting. Siu collects various disposable food containers from local restaurants and supermarkets then transforms them into a set of Chinese fine porcelain dinnerware by moulding and slip casting. The typical form of low cost food containers contrasting the fine dinnerware material. Moreover, Siu reinterprets the willow pattern, which was often painted on fine English tableware, with the drawings of HK’s cityscape and low income local people. Siu reveals, through her work, the life of the urbanite and addresses the idea of people’s livelihood.
